About KA/21 Valedictory Ceremony

Karnataka has been a pioneer in building robust public-private collaborations to augment capacity and deliver effective governance. In July 2021, the Government of Karnataka in partnership with The/Nudge Institute had welcomed 10 C-Suite executives from the private sector to work alongside high-ranking bureaucrats on programs of strategic relevance. The inaugural cohort completed their 18 month term with the government, with highly successful outcomes, and were felicitated by the Hon'ble governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot at the Raj Bhavan. The valedictory ceremony was also attended by the Guest of Honour, Chief Secretary, Smt. Vandita Sharma, bureaucrats and officials of various state departments and the leadership team at The/Nudge.

The Fellows, each with stellar careers of 20+ years, have worked on key departmental priorities and projects infusing into the work, ideas, innovation, efficiency and technology. Their contributions have resulted in creation of technology frameworks in Women & Child Development, Go to market strategies and brand creation for FPO produce and Agritech innovations for farmer beneficiaries among others.

Dr Krishnan leads a group focused on research and policy outreach in the broad area of regulatory and public economics, including concerns about investor protection and financial sector reforms, land policy and records, public finance and public administration, and law, economics, and justice. He Joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1983 and has served in various field and secretariat positions in India. Trained in economics, finance, and law, Dr Krishnan has chaired or served as a member of several GoI committees. He has taught as a visiting professor at the ISB, at Ashoka University, etc. & he regularly lectures at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie. He has published on a range of public policy issues in books, journals, and the mainstream media. Dr Krishnan holds a B.A. (Hons) in Economics from St Stephen’s College and an LL.B. degree from the University of Delhi, an M.A. in Economics from the University of Mysore, and a FPM/Ph.D. in Economics & Finance from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.

Jayamala Subramaniam has more than two decades of experience in strategy and execution in banking, education, agro-technology, ITES, and the nonprofit sector across countries. At Arghyam, she leads the scale imagination journey for large government and nonprofit programs to achieve water security in a sustainable manner. She has proven expertise in identifying and establishing transformational processes for scaling standalone start-ups and start-up environments.

Dr. S. S. Meenakshisundaram is a Post Graduate in Mathematics from Loyola College, Madras and holds a Ph.D. in Development Economics from Jamia Milia Islamia National University, New Delhi. During his career in the Karnataka cadre of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) he had held a number of assignments including Deputy Commissioner of Tumkur and Bangalore districts, Director of Sericulture, Managing Director of Karnataka Milk Federation and Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department. He was a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, United Kingdom for one year. Besides several articles and papers on Governance, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, he has also published a book on "Decentralization in Developing Countries" during 1994. His second book on Empowerment of rural women was published in 2017. After working as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Karnataka and Joint Secretary to three Prime Ministers of India, he served as an Adviser in the Planning Commission and Secretary in the Ministries of Rural Development and Disinvestment Govt. of India. He was also the Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board, Karnataka during 2007-08. Currently he is the Chairman of MYRADA, a voluntary organization in the field of building people's institutions for development and a Visiting Professor at Institute of Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Gandhigram Rural University and National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bangalore. He is also the Chairman of the India Wash Forum and a member of the Karnataka State Policy and Planning Commission and the Academic Council for the Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University, Gadag.

Electronics engineer from IIT Kanpur, MBA from IIM Calcutta and PhD in Organizational Behavior from Case Western Reserve University USA, Dr Rajesh Tandon founded Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) in 1982 as a global research and training centre in promoting participatory research & development and accountable governance. Globally recognised civil society leader, Dr Tandon co-founded CIVICUS, Citizens & Governance Programme (Commonwealth), International Forum for Capacity Building of Civil Society. Under his leadership, PRIA conducted first ever studies of the non-profit sector, governance and management of civil society and civil society state relations. He has authored more than 100 books and articles on these themes. Since 2012, Dr Tandon is UNESCO Co-Chair on Social Responsibility in Higher Education, and has served on UGC, UNDP, World Bank and other expert committees of the government. He currently serves as Chairperson of Forum for India’s Development Cooperation, a partnership platform with Ministry of External Affairs, GOI.
